“I’ll pass”
We use this phrase in our family a lot. As children, Mom taught us how to play card games (Maybe not a very Baptist habit at the time). But we learned numbers, number order, addition, subtraction, and recognition of face cards. “I’ll pass” was a phrase we learned that indicated that we needed no more cards, like “ I’m good“. Lin and I play cards with our grandsons almost every morning. We find it more valuable than electronics while we wait for the morning school bus.
It sounds like our church is going to do “I’ll pass” a lot more, soon.
We already pass communion plates and the church celebrates communion the first Sunday of every month, “In remembrance of Jesus, until he returns.”
I like this regularity and the “I’ll pass” communion to my neighbor is a good exercise in church life.
We will also begin “I’ll pass” the offering plates. This also is a good practice as it reminds us of a special act of worship: stewardship. It also helps disciple children, and teens as they observe us older ones, giving our tithes
and offerings.
The church will also return to an earlier practice of “I’ll pass” the microphone as we share a time prior to community prayer as we share each other’s burdens. Let’s look forward to the return of this practice as well.
In our church life, “I’ll pass“ is really the opposite of “card-playing life”.
In church, it means “I’ll share” the bread and the cup, our stewardship, our burdens, and even more of ourselves.
1 Corinthians 14:26 states, “What then is the right course, believers?
When you meet together each one has a psalm, a teaching, a revelation (disclosure of special knowledge), a tongue, or an interpretation. Let everything be constructive and edifying, and done for the good of ALL the church.
(The Amplified Version) May the Lord bless us as “I’ll share“ becomes more and more a reality at S.R.B.C.
Yours in service to Christ our King,
Your Interim Pastor, Steve Tufts

There is a basket marked Fellowship Fund on the table at the back of the sanctuary or you may send in your offering specified as Fellowship Fund. We still focus on the offering on the 3rd Sunday, but you may give at any time.

My sister, Marita Rogers, loved her faith community at Spinning Road very much, especially the Bible studies and Christian education ministry with the little ones. Our Lord blessed her with a family of faith who also lovingly cared for her and Lee, spiritually and physically.
Marita is now with the Lord, resting in His presence and rejoicing in the promises we all hold dear.
We thank God and pray for you and your
church’s mission.
Love you in Christ,
Bertin and Doris

March 26, 1949, a national broadcast titled “One Great Hour” featured a remarkable assembly of national leaders and celebrities. The 33rd U.S. President, Harry S. Truman’s, radio address during the broadcast included the following:
“There are thousands of children in foreign lands today who have no memory of their parents, no knowledge of the meaning of the words "home" and "family," and who have forgotten what it feels like to have enough to eat. There are hopeless thousands who wander among the shattered towns seeking a place to rest, seeking security and a chance to begin their lives anew. There are many who pray to God only in secret, fearing persecution if they profess their beliefs openly. It is hard for us to comprehend grief and distress such as this because we in America are so much more fortunate. Our country has been blessed with material riches. Our homes are secure. We can go to our churches and worship God as we desire. We know that we enjoy these great blessings not because of any special merit on our part, but because of the bounty of God. It is to His Providence that we owe the richness of our country and our heritage of freedom. Since these good things come to us from Him,
we know that we must use them for the good of others in accordance with His will.”
The broadcast concluded by asking Americans to give generously the next morning in their churches. More than 75,000 churches responded.
Today, One Great Hour of Sharing serves people in over 80 countries around the world. Sponsored by five Christian U.S. denominations and Church World Service, One Great Hour of Sharing makes sure that we can respond to needs as soon as they happen and that tens of thousands of people receive support for ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and development. The World Relief Committee of the American Baptist Board of General Ministries reviews each development project request funded by the One Great Hour of Sharing offering received from American Baptists. Gifts reach the ministries and people in need through a network of regional and international partnerships.
