On the surface, this may not seem very important to most people, but it does to me.
For some six months prior to this date, I had researched the claims of Christ. After coming through my brand of trouble, as a 16-year-old, I decided that the source of help would be found in Christ, through reading the Bible, and attending church to hear the Bible preached.
My little brother, who is now a missionary and has been all of his adult life, had left for me a Gospel tract out in full view. I read it, and I prayed the sinner's prayer, and I was hoping that was enough. It wasn’t. I
realized the importance of making a public declaration of my faith, so on September 21, 1969, I made the journey down the center aisle of our church and there took the hand of my Pastor and prayed the sinner's prayer again. This I did in full view of the church body, which embraced me, discipled me, loved me through my errors as a
new Christian.
Many times through the past 50+ years of ministry, people have asked me why our
church gives an altar call. The following statement from someone far older and wiser than
I explains why:
“A visible church membership is advocated because the local, visible church is the place for Christians to publicly identify with Christ, serve others, receive pastoral care, and grow in faith, fulfilling the biblical call for community and accountability rather than a solitary spiritual life.
Membership provides a concrete way to exercise spiritual gifts, be discipled by leaders, and participate in the ordinances, demonstrating and reinforcing one's union with Christ.”
I have often compared a public display of our faith to a marriage ceremony. We unashamedly proclaim our allegiance to each other as we exchange wedding vows. Most commonly, we do this in the presence of family, friends, or witnesses to the event. That display of our commitment to each other lasts a lifetime. And so it should be with our commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ, to our local church, and to each other as members of the body of Christ.
Happy to be part of the family of God,
Pastor Steve Tufts, (your interim)

AWANA MINUTE
As we enter fall, a lot is happening at SRBC! Our AWANA program is in full swing, meeting Wednesdays at 6:05 PM, where kids are playing, singing, learning, growing, and having fun, all while learning about God's Word.
Club kicked off on Wednesday, September 3rd. We welcomed new clubbers and past clubbers to begin our 22nd year of Club. How awesome is that! Clubbers have been arriving hungry for God, friends, fellowship with leaders, and all of the awesome things that Awana has to offer. this year.
On Wednesday, September 17, clubbers came to Club representing their schools, wearing their colors for our 1st theme night of the year, Spirit Night.
Our season of giving will kick off this month as we ask clubbers to fill shoeboxes for OCC and bring in non-perishable food to help restock our food pantry for the holidays.
Thank you to all the faithful leaders and volunteers creating the opportunity each week!
We ask that you continue to fulfill your very important role in Club by praying for everyone involved in Club each week.
Thank you for your continued support in this ministry!
Kids matter to God, and us!

During the calendar year of 2025, there have been a number of church families experiencing the passing of their loved one. If you feel a need for grief support, let Pastor Steve know. There is a possibility that our church could form a grief support group as we seek to care for families needing this ministry.

Our Mission
International Ministries, also known as the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society, works cross-culturally to invite people to become disciples of Jesus Christ and to proclaim, through both word and deed, God’s reign of justice, peace and abundant life for all creation.
3 Focused Impact Areas of our Work
1. Inviting people to be disciples of Jesus Christ
2. Proclaiming God’s reign of justice, peace and abundant life
3. Equipping the body of Christ to engage in God’s mission
Four Distinctives of IM
1. We respond to God’s call as Jesus taught us and as the Holy Spirit leads us
IM seeks to embody the example of Jesus who met the poor and marginalized where they lived. We align with the creative power and still small voice of the Holy Spirit embodied in our global servants and partners.
2. It is with flexibility, focus and investment that our work centers on persons and partnerships
We focus on discipleship and education, work for peace and justice, advocate for those caught in human trafficking and global slavery, nurture economic and community development and offer opportunities for all to participate in our work. Our faith and openness to innovation drives us.
3. Global Servants sustain and fuel our mission movement
Our dynamic, relational and incarnational global servants are answering the call. They are deciphering global need and helping to usher in God’s reign of peace where justice prevails, through their sacrificial and transformative ministries. They have accessed a unique call on their lives to grow and steward our mission.
4. We’ve been responding for centuries
We are the oldest Baptist international mission agency in North America, true to the Gospel, faithfully innovating and sharing God’s love. IM has both connectedness to heritage and creative exploration and inventiveness in ministry.
