The Christmas season is upon us and the Staff and I wish you and your family a month full of wonder, joy and the spirituality that the miracle of our Savior’s birth brings. We make every effort at preschool to convey the true spirit of Christmas to the students. You may see some evidence of Santa, for he is the symbol of the spirit of giving. You may hear some reindeer songs, but we will emphasize the celebration of Christ’s birth, for this is the real reason Christians celebrate!

Scholastic book orders are due no later than Dec. 6th. This will allow them time to arrive before Christmas break. If you orders directly through the book club, please place your order on or before this date. The points we earn with each book purchased allows us to get new books for the classrooms. Scholastic also has educational items, games, books with tapes and puzzles we can use the points on. Many of our puzzle and listening center books with tapes have come from Scholastic.
Books are excellent gifts for young readers or any reader for that matter. This is a wonderful way to promote literacy at home. I know many families use our public libraries which are great but for a child to have a favorite book they can have read over and over to them and not have to return it is special. I have many of the books my own children loved and will give them to my grand children as they become readers. Many are out of print now and it will be nice to pass them on.

Our Christmas Program is Friday, December 20th at 11:15 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. If your child doesn’t come on Fridays, we would like for all students be here on the 20th at normal time 8:30 a.m. Parents when you come for the program, please enter through the double glass doors by the Church Sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. (This is the area where parents with smaller children dropped-off and picked- up their student.)

It’s important to explain the drop-off and pick-up service with winter fast approaching. This is a service for parents who have younger children, students they have to get to elementary school by 9:00 a.m. or grandparents that can’t manage the stairs. I know it would be nice if we could offer this to everyone but we do not have the staff to do this for the whole student body. We are also limited by staff/student ratio. This ratio also applies to me when I am dealing with a group of students. I’m the only person not in a classroom and who is available to move the students to and from their class so I have to be on ratio at all times. I know that some students see their friends coming with me and would also like to come so that is why we must restrict this service to parents that really need the help.

We have had some parents asking if it is too late to send their children 5 days for the rest of the year. Beginning in January, any (Pre-K) parent interested in signing their child up for the 5 day program is welcome to do so. Some parents don’t always want to start 5 days at the beginning of the year but find their child has matured enough to try it in the second half of the term. This is especially helpful for students going on to kindergarten in the fall. It allows students to experience attending five days that can make the transition to elementary school a little easier. If you are interested, please speak to your teacher to see if it is a good idea for your child. The tuition for five days is $260 per month.

Classroom News

Early Beginners
We will be working on the letters J, K & L, as well as the number 4 and the color red. We will have the librarian on December 9th and music with Pastor Scott on December 11th
Don’t forget to sign up to bring something for our Christmas Party on Friday, December 20th. Our Christmas Choir Concert is on the same day at 11:15 a.m. It will start on time and we want to remind you to get here by 11 a.m.   Please be on time preschoolers get very fidgety and are not good at waiting. You may invite as many as you want to hear the choir Friday, December 20th is our last class day in 2019 so we will see you back on January 6th.

Middlers

Merry Christmas! Christmas time is here and we will spend this month talking about Jesus’ birthday.
This is a short month of school with so much to pack into it. Letters I, J & K, the number 4th and the color red worked into our daily lesson plans. Our projects will reflect the Christmas season, along with the books and songs.
     We will have a Christmas Choir concert on Friday, December 20th at 11:15 a.m. Please arrive before then as our program will begin promptly at its scheduled time. You will not want to miss any of the event.
     Our class Christmas party will also be on Friday, December 20th. There will be a party sign-up sheet on our bulletin board outside the classroom. This will be the last day of school for 2019. Class will resume on Monday, January 6th.

Pre-Kindergarten

We wish all our students and their families a Blessed Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season.
We are so grateful for Jesus in our lives. We talk about how we see Jesus in our friends and how to
treat our friends as Jesus would treat them.

December is going to be a fast paced month in the classroom with all the special projects we
will be working on for the holiday. We will be enjoying this special time of year in the classroom
with all of our friends.

We will have a Christmas Program on Friday, December 20th. Parents, please arrive around 11:00 a.m., as our program will begin promptly at 11:15 a.m. If Friday is not your usual day for school, we encourage you to bring your child to school at regular. Then you may proceed to Fellowship Hall to wait for the program to begin. The students have been practicing long and hard for the performance.

Our Christmas party is also Friday, December 20th we will have a sign-up sheet for party goodies on the bulletin board.

The school Christmas Holiday begins December 20th and will go through January 6th. We will see you back in class on Monday, January 6th. We wish you  and your family a blessed holiday.

From Your Administrator – Mia Lynch

      Wow! I can’t believe it is November. Time at Spin-Kemp always seems to fly by. It is hard to comprehend we are starting our third month of school. As the holidays approach, it is time to slow down (yes, I’m referring to Thanksgiving and Christmas) and reflect upon God’s greatness. Even when things look the darkest, we should feel blessed to live in this wonderful country of freedoms. Be still, and know that I am God. Psalms 46:10
      We hope you had a lovely time with your child at Women’s Night. We want you to feel a part of the learning that goes on at Spin-Kemp. These nights also give you the opportunity to get to know other mothers and better acquainted with the teachers. This is something unique to Spin-Kemp.
      On Monday, November 25th you are invited to come and share the morning snack. It’s nothing fancy just an opportunity have a morning treat with your child.
      We always welcome new ideas on how to improve our preschool program and monthly newsletters. If you have any tips, please share them with us. We will talk about them in our staff meetings. To remain anonymous you may drop any suggestions in the tuition box by the school entrance.
      As cold weather approaches….
Be sure to send your child to school with a warm jacket, hat and gloves. If we are blessed with a nice day, the children will go outside to play in the fresh air. Please have your child’s name on all clothing items; occasionally students will have the same style and color jacket, hat, gloves or scarf.

Parents that use the drop-off and pick-up by the glass doors: Remember to be on time at both drop-off and pick-up. In the morning the waiting students need to get to class and the teachers need to see who is dropping them off. It is important I leave the drop-off area at 8:35 a.m. each morning to deal with my other duties. If you don’t make it before 8:35a.m., you will have to come into the building to drop-off. It is also extremely important you pick-up by 12:00 p.m. the staff have other appointments, or jobs to get to.
        I know it is seems quicker to get out of your car and walk past several cars to drop-off or pick-up but it only delays others behind you. The first car should pull up to within 3 feet of the awning so three cars at one time can let their children out or pick-up. This makes the line move more quickly for everyone.

      You might want to check with your child’s teachers for what donations they need. The two things we use the most is paper towels and facial tissues.

       You might have heard from your children we are practicing drills. Educational and childcare facilities are mandated by the state to conduct fire drills each month, wind drills during tornado season and lockdowns & evacuations four times per school term. I know that when we went to school we only did fire drills but we live in a constantly changing environment today and we must practice many different scenarios to keep students save.

     Thank you so much for your Scholastic Book Orders. It helps us get new books and earn point to get other supplies they offer such as: games, puzzles, book & CD sets for the listening equipment, furniture and sit-up cushions.

I have 15 tuition envelopes that have not been returned. The envelopes are important - it gives you a visual payment record for each month, it assures that all families get a newsletter and calendar each month and helps the secretary keep the tuition payment organized when she turns them in to the preschool office.

CLASSROOM NEWS
Pre-Ks

Dear Parents,
October was so busy with activities and special guests. November looks to the same. We want to send out a big thank you to the Librarian, Base Firefighters, and Kroger for giving us insight on what it is to be community helpers.
   Everyone is doing their best in class as we continue to add new learning tasks. Keep checking the
“SHINING STARS” charts to see if your child needs help. We have been working on spelling and writing their first names. We will continue to improve on this task. Please help your child at home also.
   Make sure to clean out your child’s tote bag each day. We do not want anyone to miss out on any special activity or event.
   As we continue through November, our projects will reflect the season of Thanksgiving. We will discuss what we are thankful for, as well as respect, sharing, kindness and listening skills. We celebrate Thanksgiving each year with a Family Snack. Please come and share this time with your child and the school. Mark your calendar for Monday, November 25th.
Temperature has change and the mornings are quit chilly. Remember to have your child wear long sleeves and have a jacket or coat for outside playtime.

Middlers

Happy Thanksgiving! We are so grateful for our class and their families. We wish all of you a blessed Thanksgiving.
   As we continue through November our projects will reflect the season of Thanksgiving. We will discuss
what we are thankful for, as well as respect, sharing, kindness and listening skills. We will be working
on the letters F, G, & H and the number three. Check the tote bags for projects and information on up coming events. Talk to your child about the work he or she brings home. They are proud of things they can do. Your interest encourages them to continue their learning process.
   Mark your calendar for Monday, November 25th we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with a Family Snack. Please come and share this time with your child and the school.
   There will be no school Wednesday, November 27st through Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will see you Monday, December 2nd when classes resume.

Early Beginners

This month we will focus on giving Thanks and for all the ways we can show our appreciation for others. We will be working on the letters G, H, and I as well as the color brown and the number 3.
   We are working hard on learning our Thanksgiving songs for the Thanksgiving Feast. Mark your calendar for Monday, November 25th at 11:15 a.m. so you can join us for snack and hear our Thanksgiving songs. We are a small group but have a might voice when we sing together.

FYI

Now that the seasons are getting cooler please try to dress your child in long sleeves. I know parents pick and choose their battles and this doesn’t seem like one you want to battle over. If they give you a hard time, tell them this is how their teacher wants them to dress for school. The rooms are warm but if they have to do a wind drill the rest of the build is keep at a cooler temperature when it the other spaces are not in use.

Please remember to change out your child’s “change of clothes” for this season. They need to have long sleeve tees or shirts, socks and long pants or leggings. The bag might still have shorts and short sleeve tees which is not something suitable to change into if you have a spill or get wet from other activities. Some classrooms may keep the change of clothes in their tote and others have Ziploc bags in their room. If the later is the case just bring a new set of clothes and the teacher will assist you in transferring them and let you take the summer clothes home.
