One Christmas we had an unexpected houseguest. A squirrel had fallen down the chimney into the wood burner stove in the basement of our home in Michigan.
I thought if it knew we were there to help, I could just reach in and gently lift it out. Nothing doing. As I reached in, it began scratching like it had overdosed on espresso.
We finally managed to construct a cardboard box “cage” complete with a large hole in one side, into which the squirrel waltzed when we placed the box against the wood burner’s door. We let it out into the safety of our backyard.
Later, I thought, Isn’t it funny how, before its redemption, our little visitor had frantically tried to bash its way out of its dark prison? It seemed that the harder it struggled to get free, the more pain it caused itself. In the end, it had to wait until one who was much bigger — one who could peer into its world — could carry it to that larger world where it really belonged.

This is what the Lord did for us. From ancient times up to this very day,
human beings have been trying to scratch their way out of the darkness of sin. Whether it be through political ambition, vain philosophies, intellectualism,
a man-made pretense of morality that has only served to plunge us deeper into sin and disobedience, the obvious result is that we have placed ourselves in need of redemption. We need someone to save us.
And God, in His infinite mercy and compassion, knew that the only way for us to be redeemed, was to come to us in the flesh and show us the way to Himself.
That is why Christmas is so important to us Christians. That is why long ago, Christians took what had been a pagan holiday, and turned it into a celebration of the incarnation, the birth of a Baby who was God in the flesh.
But mankind has done everything in its power to turn it back into a pagan holiday. While we have much fun with many of the traditions and customs of an American Christmas, and there is nothing wrong with doing that, let us be sure that at the forefront of all our festivities, is the proclamation of a Savior come into the world to deliver us from our bondage to sin.
Praise God for His indescribable gift!

Our group continues to thrive! Youth from SRBC and the neighborhood come together on Sunday evenings to play games, eat snacks, pray for each other, share a few laughs, and dig into a Bible lesson and how it applies to us. Christ is the center of our Group, and we would like youth grades 7th – 12th to come hang out with us Sunday evenings from 6 pm – 8 pm and bring your friends! Check us out, you'll find a space that you're welcome and appreciated. We will be intentional with pushing each other towards Christ.

‘Tis the season for food, fun, friends, and celebration! The Youth Group will have their Christmas party on December 3, 6 PM – 8 PM. All 7th – 12th grade students are invited to come hang out with us for games, worship, and a whole lot of Christmas joy!
We’ll have a fun White Elephant Gift Exchange! Please bring a gift that does not exceed $10. We’ll see you there!

Here at SRBC we collect a Fellowship Offering on the 3rd Sunday of every month. This offering is used for emergency needs and financial assistance for those in need. This has been a great ministry of our church through the years, and we just want to remind you that we are continuing to collect this offering. There is a basket marked Fellowship Fund on the communion table, or you may send in your offering specified as Fellowship Fund. We still focus on the offering on the 3rd Sunday, but you may give at any time.
There will be no ladies Bible Study on December 12th, 19th, 26th, and January 2nd. Our study will resume on January 9th. Enjoy the holiday and we will see you on January 9th.
The Choir will present a program on December 17th at 7:00 pm. “The King is Here” will be a sight and sound celebration of the coming of Emmanuel to us. Come worship with us!

On Sunday, December 3, 2023, we will be live-streaming the Cedarville University Christmas program. This is a program that never disappoints. Join us at 6:00 pm in the sanctuary for a night of Christmas music presented by the Cedarville University music department.
AWANA MINUTE
We’ve been busy completing start zones, receiving new uniforms, meeting friends each week, working through our handbooks, and learning through lessons. It’s neat working with our kids and watching them grow and learn God’s Word and how to apply it to their daily lives. We are thankful for our leaders and families who participate each week.
Each of our clubs discusses the lesson, works on verses, plays games, prays, and
grows closer to God through the ministry of Awana. Praise God for this exciting
weekly outreach ministry!
Awana was involved with giving this past month. We brought in many non-perishable food items for the food pantry, along with assembling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
The 8th clubbers came dressed in Red, White, & Blue in honor of our Veterans who so faithfully serve our country and others to keep the freedoms that we enjoy daily!
On the 15th The Journey, Trek & T&T clubbers along with their leaders helped to assemble 28 Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in our community’ thanks in part to your generosity.
We took a break from Club on the 22nd in observance of Thanksgiving.
We hope that you had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving spending time with family & friends, hopefully not eating too much.
November 29 Clubbers returned from break to find the doors to the Awana store wide open and open for business. The Awana store is a place where clubbers can shop till, they drop and/or save their hard-earned points as a result of their hard work in Club each week.
We will wrap up this year’s club for the Christmas and New Years holidays, December 13th with parties, and our Christmas shop. Club will resume Wednesday January 3, 2024,
at 6:05 pm.

Getting gifts at Christmas is a wonderful tradition. Something to open, and when you are unwrapping the present you know that someone cared enough about you to have taken the time to buy it, to box it, and to wrap it then to either send that gift to you or to give it to you in person.
Although this is not a tangible present, it is one I would like to give you.
This Christmas and far into the millennium, my wish for you is this. If you don’t have someone special in your life to love you, or to give you love. I hope you will soon.
If you have children, may they be all you want them to.
If you don’t have children, may you touch the heart of a child and bring that child joy.
May you find happiness at the job you do.
May you get everything you wish for, if not may you be happy with what
you have.

RMMO is a congregational offering and a joint project of ABCUSA and MMBB. Collected annually in December from participating congregations, RMMO funds are distributed as thank you checks to ABCUSA retired ordained ministers and commissioned missionaries who have devoted 15 years or more to our denomination, as well as surviving spouses.
A certain portion is also allocated for direct emergency assistance.
The offering originated in the mid-1930s as the Communion Fellowship Offering and since 1977 has been known as RMMO.
