     COVID-19 has affected all of our lives in very significant ways. The routines of life that we have depended upon have all been altered in one way or another because of this pandemic. Going to church, going to school, going to the store, going to visit someone, going anywhere at all, has taken on a new dimension and has caused us to grieve the loss of normalcy.

     There have been a number of people in our church
who have suffered the loss of loved ones in recent months.
For some, it was COVID-19 that took a loved one far too soon. For others, the deaths may have been more expected due to aging and illness. Still, for others, the losses have been tragic and sudden. For all of them, the losses that have been experienced by those left behind have been magnified by this pandemic in that we can't even grieve the same way we have been accustomed to.

     As we assess all of the things we have lost, I encourage you to focus on what we have through our faith in Jesus Christ. Paul said, “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”

     We have been doing our best to regain some of those things we have lost in the context of our church life. In addition to returning to in-person worship, we have made it possible for anyone who would like to join us live on-line for both Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. You will see in this newsletter that in October, we will be resuming Sunday School, Children's Church and AWANA. Even though all those things will look a lot different because of COVID, we rejoice that we can return a little back toward normalcy.

   Despite all that has been lost, I pray that we all can have a renewed understanding of what we have already gained through our salvation in Christ, and that even when we are able to totally resume all of our church activities, that our focus will be on that relationship to Jesus, rather than the activities themselves. I pray that we will have learned that even if we were to lose everything else, that the value of knowing Jesus is sufficient and that the things we are able to enjoy and do together are blessings from His hand that enable us to have a deeper appreciation of our abundant and eternal life found through faith in Christ.

Ladies of Spinning Road Baptist Church,

Friends and bridesmaids of Abbie Goodman are putting on a bridal shower for her on Saturday, November 14. They are inviting the ladies from our church to attend the shower. They were wondering for planning purposes about how many ladies from the church would like to attend.
Due to COVID restrictions, they were not sure who would feel it would be appropriate and safe to attend, since it will be indoors. COVID distancing and precautions would be enforced. hey asked if we could get an approximate count as soon as possible so that they can finish their planning and preparations. Please do not feel any obligation to attend. We totally understand any reluctance. But if you think you would like to attend the bridal shower for Abbie on November 14 from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Bravo Restaurant, please let Colleen Goodman know by October 8. PURSUERS’ CLASS: A note for Dave Look
After years of taking deep dives into books such as Revelation, Romans, and Acts, the Pursuers S.S. class will take a different approach, at least for now. We will use “Our Daily Bread” as a guidebook and discuss certain excerpts that seem to be especially relevant for our class. Please pick up a copy in the foyer and read it each day, as many of us are already doing. If a particular day’s reading has a special meaning for you, we can discuss it. Each week I will also pick out a few readings and together we can see what God has in mind for each of us. Every reading begins with appropriate scripture for its subject matter and we will discuss how that scripture also applies to our own lives. Please join us downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.

SEEKERS CLASS: Ed Prince will discuss with the class the next study. They will continue to meet in the Seekers classroom.

YOUNG ADULT CLASS: Crystal Jackson will be contacting class members as to meeting time and will meet in the Prayer Room.

7TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE: A note from Nancy Warwick. Join us in exploring the upside-down kingdom, which Matthew describes. How does it apply today? We just started the book of Matthew and are in chapter 3. We will continue to meet in the YAM room.

K – 6TH GRADE: Ellen Reichard, joined by Tere Sharp, (via phone) will continue the study of Exodus in the room across for the Nursery.

The Nursery will not be open for babies – 2 years during COVID-19 pandemic. Contact Felicia at (937)272-4254 if you have any questions.

Are you missing a coat, a pair of shoes, one shoe, an earring, a ring, your glasses, your purse,
your homework?
All of these things, and many more are in our Lost and Found above the coat rack by the church offices. There is quite a collection of things in the tubs.
It just might be yours!
If these things are not claimed by October 11, 2020 they will be thrown away.
So, hurry and check it out!

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PLAY 2020

Due to the Pandemic, we are placing the Children’s Christmas Program on hold, as our restrictions just don’t allow us to start rehearsals at this time.

AWANA MINUTE:
     Due to the pandemic we are starting club a bit later than usual. Wednesday, October 7,
at 6:05 pm will be our fall kick-off date for the 2020-2021 club year. Clubs will be offered
in person, Virtual (at home) and Hybrid (A mix of both).

Things will look remotely different to begin the year, on the other hand God has been so gracious and we've been able to plan and get club organized for the start of a new club year that shares the gospel, includes safety standards while maintaining lots of FUN!!!

Dear faithful people of Spinning Road Baptist Church,

Here are the protocols we will be following as we move to in-person attendance to church services:

Please, if Sunday comes and you are not feeling well, just stay home. You might think this would need to go without saying, but I am sure there have been many times that you have attended church, even when you weren't feeling the greatest. I know I have often come in even though I was quite sick. We cannot do this at this time. The symptoms of the coronavirus are so varied and unpredictable, there is no way to be certain that you do not have it. Even if you feel it is just a little cold, a little fever or headache that would not ordinarily prevent you from doing everyday things and you feel quite sure you do not have this virus, it would be a ministry to others to just wait until you are feeling better to come and be with the rest of the congregation.

Children
The nursery will remain closed.
We will not have the children come up for children's time. (Although if children are in attendance, we will have a special children's message to be presented.
Children's church will resume on October 11.

5. Sunday School will resume on October 4.

Entrance to Building

The water fountains will be closed off. If you feel you may need a drink of water while you are here, please try to bring some bottled water along with you.
Facemasks - Most of you, by this time, have acquired face masks that are to be worn in public. Please wear them as you come into the building and during the worship service. If you do not have one, we will have a supply of disposable facemasks that you can use and throw away after the service.

Seriously, please view the wearing of face masks, not as making a political statement, or of expressing fear that you will contract the virus, but more of expressing your desire to protect others from the virus that you may be unknowingly carrying.
Those speaking from the pulpit or leading worship will not be wearing masks as they speak or sing. However, wearing masks while singing as a congregation will help protect from the risk of expelling droplets, which we are told is greater from singing than it is from even coughing or sneezing.

Hands - We actually ask that you do not bring in gloves that have been worn outside the building. The potential for cross-contamination is greater than the protection they would provide. If you bring gloves that have not been previously worn, by all means, feel free to put them on during the service if you would like. We will not be providing gloves.

We do ask that you go to the touchless hand-sanitizing station that we have purchased, which will be just outside the sanctuary door. Please apply hand sanitizer before you go into the sanctuary. Parents are asked to monitor your children's use of the hand sanitizer.

The Worship Service
1. A seating plan is being worked on that would enable us to be spatially distant from one another. Of course, members of the same household may sit together, but we want to sit at least six feet apart from those from different households. The plan will most likely consist of sitting in every other pew, but may be adjusted according to the number of people present. Chairs will be set up in the back for additional seating if needed. There will be someone to help you figure out the best place for you and your family to sit.
2. We are now printing 1 page paper bulletins for the service to include the order of service, prayer requests, brief announcements and the sermon outline. We will remove pencils from the pew racks, but will be leaving the hymnals, Bibles, cards and envelopes.

It would be helpful if you would not touch these items if at all possible.

We will not be doing our fellowship and greeting time. As hard as it will be to refrain from greeting one another with hugs and handshakes after not being with each other for so long, we ask you to try your best to do so. (I may have to walk around with my hands behind my back to inhibit this instinct!)
If you have prayer requests, please write them down and get them to me before the service, and I will read them from the pulpit. We will not be passing the microphone around as we are accustomed to doing.
Offering plates will be placed on a table in the back of the sanctuary.

Please place your offering in your envelope from home. You may then place your offering in the plate before you are seated or when you leave the sanctuary. If you are more comfortable continuing to mail in your offering, by all means do so.

Communion - We have ordered pre-packaged, individual communion kits that will be placed on a table in the back of the sanctuary. On communion Sunday, just pick one of those up and keep it with you until the end of the service when we observe the Lord's Table.
Dismissal - In order to prevent the instinctive congregating and fellowship around the sanctuary after our worship services, we are going to dismiss you row by row. If you would like to visit with folks outside in the parking lot, that would be much safer than the indoor closed quarters.

May God be with you and bless you all, and may we thank Him for His goodness to us as we continue to grow and learn to trust Him to take us through this trying time.
