Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner. Did your favorite team make it in this year? I've always wondered how that would feel!
If you've watched football for long, you have noticed that the players have continually gotten bigger, heavier and stronger. This is true of every position, but especially offensive lineman. Today, the average lineman is 6 feet, 5 inches and weighs 312 pounds. In the 1970's, the average height and weight was 6 foot 3 inches, and 255 pounds.
As the defensive players have gotten bigger and faster, the offensive lineman have had to make adjustments in order to do their job of keeping their opponents from getting to the running backs and quarterback. You would think that their success would be connected to their huge physique.
But surprisingly, the key to their success is not necessarily their size or strength, but rather how low they can get to execute a block and how quickly they can discern the tactic of their opponent. Their size certainly helps, but is not as crucial as you might think.
Similarly, our success as Christians is not found in our strengths and abilities, but rather on how low and humble we can get as we learn to depend on God's strength and how quickly we can discern the tactics of our enemy. God does give us strengths and abilities and we can be thankful for them, but it is our trust in His strength that truly makes us effective for His kingdom.
Humble yourself before the Lord, and in due time, He will lift you up. (James 4:10)
With love, Pastor Scott

Tuesday Women's Bible Study
In this series, “A Life God Rewards”, by Bruce Wilkinson, you are going to discover that Jesus revealed a direct link between what you do today and what you will experience after you die. Astoundingly, the majority of spiritual seekers around the world – including millions who follow Jesus – seem to have missed what He said. What you’ll discover will unlock the power and potential in your life, starting now. And you’ll begin to live with the unshakable certainty that what you do today matters forever!!
We hope to start February 5th.
New Small Group Bible Study
The Discovery Community Group is for adults of all ages. Whether you have known Jesus for many years, or only a few months this could be a group for you.
We will be studying the Bible together starting in Genesis going through to Jesus in the Gospels. We will be meeting twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday at 7pm, starting on February 28 at the home of Simon and Nancy Warwick.
We will be using questions to discover as a group what the Bible is saying to us.
We will be asking each other what we are going to do to obey the passage we have studied over the next two weeks and what changes we need to make based on what we have learned from the Bible. We will also be praying that God will show each of us someone we can share the passage with
before the next meeting.
"Does it really matter what I say?" Your greatest weapon—for good or evil—is in your mouth.
Watch Your Mouth, will be our next Sunday night video series. It is based on bestselling author Dr. Tony Evans book by the same name. This compelling resource will help you learn to tame your tongue. With real-life stories and life-changing insights shared through engaging teaching, you'll learn what the Bible teaches about talking and: Discover the power of the spoken word to bolster your faith when you're doubting. Discern what should or shouldn't be said so that you honor God with your speech. Develop the ability to praise God and voice wisdom even in tough circumstances.
Get inspired by Tony's teaching on the tongue and model with your mouth the character of God. Don't let your words bring cursing or destruction to yourself and those you love. Instead, let your words minister to and speak life into the world around you. Join us tonight at 7:00.
