A young boy went to the store with his mother. The shop owner, a kind man, passed him a large jar of suckers and invited him to help himself to a handful. Uncharacteristically, the boy held back. So the shop owner pulled out a handful for him.
When outside, the boy’s mother asked why he wouldn’t take a handful of suckers when offered.
“Because his hand is much bigger than mine!” said the boy.
While this boy's shrewdness could be taken for greed and selfishness, it could also be understood as the wisdom of waiting to be given to, as opposed to taking for yourself. Our God is a generous God who delights in giving to us. It is easy to start to take His gifts for granted and to come to expect certain things in life as rewards for our faithfulness. When the gifts don't always come in the time and the way we expect them, it might cause us to question God and His fairness. It might cause us to grab for what we can while the getting is good.
However, when we learn to wait for God to give us what He wants to give us, at the time and in the way He chooses to give to us, we will find that blessings are far greater than anything we could take for ourselves. That's because God's hands are so much bigger than ours!
May the Lord bless you greatly in 2018 as together we wait for Him.

Awana Minute
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our 2017/18 Awana club!
December 2017 went quickly as:
Wednesday the 6th clubbers were challenged to wear hats, gloves, and scarfs for our theme night, frozen night. The theme night gave clubbers the opportunity to donate their winter gear to our mitten tree basket to assist needy children in our community who need winter gear so as not to be frozen in the cold winter weather.
Congratulation too many of our clubbers who donated their gear.
On the 13th we continued the season of giving in December as a Sunday School Classroom was quickly closed, renovated and reopened as the “Christmas Shop” where clubbers picked out Christmas gifts for their parents/caregivers. The experience was completed by our personal gift wrapping elves who happily wrapped and readied their selections to be neatly placed under the Christmas tree for parents/caregivers to open on Christmas morning.
Club parties, crafts, and projects closed out the night before departing for Christmas vacation.
We broke from club December 20 & December 27, so that all could enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. We hope that your holiday season was a time of renewal and time well spend with family and friends. We will see all of you back at club January 3rd as we get club off to a Great start in 2018!
We are so excited to see what God has in store for our clubs for the remainder of this club year!
Thank-you for your continued love, support and most importantly prayers for our clubbers and entire leadership staff.
Cool with Christ.

Spinning Road Baptist Church Food Pantry
As we are all aware there a food pantry here at the church. But do you know how it is used? At this time of the year we give out food “baskets” to the needy for Thanksgiving and for Christmas. These “baskets” are really a large cardboard box fill with everything needed to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal including the turkey, and a Christmas meal to include a ham. This year we gave out over 20 baskets each holiday. As a church you have always been so generous to this mission. We ask that you keep in mind that this is a year round mission. We have families from our community who come in at all times of the year needing help. This may be the only glimpse of Christ they see in this world.
Church Planning Meeting
On Saturday, January 6, we will hold our annual church planning meeting. We will start at 9:00 a.m. with some breakfast refreshments. Teams will meet separately to organize their
plans for 2018 and then we will convene in Fellowship Hall to
put together our calendar for this year. We hope all team
members are planning to attend!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Colleen and I would like to thank you all for your generous Christmas gift to us. We are overwhelmed by your kindness and love and are very grateful to God for bringing us to Spinning Road Baptist. You have been so good to us and it is a joy and privilege to serve the Lord in your midst. Pastor Scott
