I have always been intrigued by the concept of an electric fence for dogs. This invisible fence works by transmitting an electronic current to a special collar worn by the dog. When the dog approaches the underground fence, the collar emits a warning sound. If the dog continues toward the fence, the collar gives the dog an electronic correction. Supposedly, this small shock causes no harm to the dog, but is enough to keep the dog from moving past that invisible barrier. (Although I might wonder if perhaps the animal may be in need of a “doggie psychiatrist” after being zapped so many times!)
This reminds me a little bit of the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Within each of us as believers, there is an internal alert of conscience when we are tempted to sin and there is that “zap” of pain when we get too close to the boundaries God has set up for us. We need to learn to listen for that sound and respond to the “zap” before we cross those boundaries and disappoint our Lord.
I understand that the electric fences have limitations to their effectiveness. Certain dogs will ignore the pain of the shock and break the boundaries because of the lure of what is on the other side of the fence. Unfortunately, we, too, can learn learn to ignore the promptings of the Spirit and choose to disobey because we are too drawn to what is on the other side
of the fence.
People put fences up for their dogs, whether invisible or not, because they do not want their dogs to stray and become lost. They love their dogs and want to keep them protected and close to them.
In the same way, God's commandments are given to us because God loves us and does not want us to stray away from Him. He wants to be able to feed us and nurture us and cleanse us, which He will always do as long as we remain close to Him. We always have the choice to cross over the boundaries, but God has lovingly given us the Holy Spirit to convict us and remind us of the blessings of God's boundaries. May we appreciate God's love, His concern and His commandments. May we respond to that slight pain of conviction because it keeps us within His love and care.

Here at SRBC we collect a Fellowship Offering on the 3rd Sunday of every month. This offering is used for emergency needs and financial assisstance for those in need. This has been a great ministry of our church through the years, and we just want to remind you that we are continuing to collect this offering. There is a basket marked Fellowship Fund on the communion table, or you may send in your offering specified as Fellowship Fund. We still focus on the offering on the 3rd Sunday, but you may give at any time.

We will once again be having our all-church picnic at Shellabarger Park. After church on September 11, we will move over to the park to enjoy a time of fun, food and fellowship. Chicken and drinks will be provided, but please bring your own table setting and a dish or two to share with one another. Bring lawn chairs and games or sports equipment that you would like to use while we are at our picnic.
Current 7th – 12 grade Students, what a crazy summer it's been! Now school has either started or is about to and hopefully you are all getting into the routine. Christ is the center of our Group, and we want you to Come hangout with us Sunday' evenings from
6:30 pm – 8 pm in the Youth room and bring your friends also! What can you expect? We play games, eat snacks, pray for each other, share a few laughs, and dig into a Bible lesson and how it applies to us. Check us out, you'll find a space that you're welcome and appreciated. We will be intentional with pushing each other towards Christ.

AWANA MINUTE
As much as we all hate to see summer coming to an end, it does mean another cool year of Awana is about to begin!
Awana will begin a new club year, Wednesday, September 7th at 6:05 pm. We look forward to this upcoming club year of learning, growing, and fun. Clubbers crawl under your beds (don’t get stuck, yikes), look in your closets, gather up your Awana gear, bring some new friends, and let’s get ready to rock this new club year!
Registration is required for all clubbers and leaders, it’s simple, log on to www.spinningroadbaptist.org, and register as soon as possible.
Please pray for leaders, clubbers, and missionaries that our AWANA ministry can continue to lead the children of our community to Jesus Christ and train them to honor and serve Him.

Women’s Bible Study will be starting up again on Tuesday, September 13. We will be studying the book of Hebrews. Please plan to join us for a time of Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.

Phillip and Rebecca Wei are currently in Washington D C and in ministry with two different parts of Cru.
The first is Epic, a ministry focused on reaching Asian-American Americans many of whom grew up in church but drifted away as they attended college. Our hope is use our expertise from working with international students to reach this unique group of people.
The second is Design, a ministry for South-Asian Americans. Design is very new, and only has around 14 staff across the U S. Rebecca will be able to use her experience in South Asia to help develop a movement at the University of Maryland. Philip will also be researching working with refugees. All of these groups are under reached and we are excited to see how god will use us.
