Dave and Rita took many pictures, some of which are available here on the SRBC website. The pictures pretty much follow their itinerary: Oct 31, flights to Georgetown, the capital of Guyana; Nov 1, flight across the jungle to Aishalton in a small plane; Nov 2, drive to Karaudar and celebration; Nov 3, flights back to Georgetown in small planes; and Nov 4, flights from Georgetown back to Dayton.
Praise God, the Wapishana indians in southwestern Guyana now have the New Testament in their native language. On Nov 2, 2013, Dave and Rita Look represented Spinning Road Baptist Church at a four-hour celebration that was held in the small village of Karaudar, accessible only by very poor roads that require four-wheel-drive vehicles. The Looks and other US and Canadian participants stayed in the larger village of Aishalton, about 14 miles from Karaudar. Our missionary in Guyana, Bev Dawson, who grew up in Riverside, spent forty years creating a written Wapishana language, teaching people how to read it, and producing a Wapishana New Testament. She was joined over different periods by missionaries Fran Tracy, Rich and Char Hicks, Chic Ruth, and Kaye Froelich, and also was assisted in the translation by several faithful Wapishanas. Among those attending the events were several family members of Rich and Char, who were tragically murdered in 2005. On the day before the celebration the family was able to view the grave site, which is near the town of Lethem. The Wapishanas fully realize that Rich and Char sacrificed their lives to give them the Scriptures and they will never forget it.
