"MARKS OF WISDOM"

Proverbs 2:2-11

Wisdom: the ability to judge soundly and to deal with facts as they relate to life and conduct. (Eccles. 2:11-16)

Marks of Wisdom
1. Vs. 5 – the fear of the Lord (Prov. 1:7, 9:10, 15:33 Romans 1:22)
Earthly wisdom worships the creature, not the Creator.

2. Vs. 6 - Godly wisdom is a gift.
We can ask for it. (James 1:5)
At the same time it is a gift, it is also very costly.
Wisdom comes by discipleship. (2:4, 7-9)

3. Vs. 3-4 - Being teachable (Prov. 3:1, 11-12, 12:1, 13:1 15:32)
Godly wisdom is not only an attribute, it is an attitude. (James 3:13-17)
Godly wisdom has its source in the Word of God. (Jeremiah 8:9)

4. Vs. 10-11 - a balance of knowledge and discretion (Prov. 1:4, 3:20-21, 5:2, 8:12)
Spiritual understanding is available to all. Without it, there is no wisdom. (I Cor. 1:21, 25, 30)
Jesus is the answer and the only way to wisdom.

Colossians 3:15-17

Gratitude is an attitude.
More importantly than remembering to say “thank you” is to be grateful.
Romans 1:21- Fallen humanity neither glorified God nor gave thanks.

The only way to be truly grateful people is to be born again. (3:9-12)

Thankfulness becomes a part of our new life and identity. (I Thessalonians 5:17-18; Philippians
4:6; Colossians 2:7; Ephesians 5:20)

Our gratitude to the giver is reflected by our regard for the gift.

Our gratitude to God is shown by the way we live our lives.

Examples: food, jobs, health, people to love, forgiveness, talents and abilities, salvation.

For every gift God has given you, show your thankfulness by how you regard that gift.

Hebrews 12:8-14

What we can't do without
1. The shedding of blood
Hebrews 9:22 – there is no forgiveness
Exodus 12:13 – when I see the blood, I will pass over you.
Christ's blood is the new covenant.

2. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)

Believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him

If you seek God, you will find Jesus.

3. You cannot do without discipline.

a. Discipline demonstrates love. (12:5-6)
b. Discipline indicates sonship. (7-9)
c. Discipline produces righteousness (10-11)

4. Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.

Philippians 3:9 - imputed holiness
I Peter 1:15 - practical holiness

II Corinthians 7:1- this kind of holiness is a process.
