Mark 1:1-13
The need that drew people to John the Baptist was repentance.
In times of famine, people often had to travel through a desert to get to the place where there was food.
Jesus' baptism was a symbol of His identifying with the sinfulness of mankind.
Jesus was led to the wilderness because the wilderness was the best place for Him to be.
The spiritual forces do battle in the wilderness.
Great figures of the Bible who spent time in the wilderness
- Abraham- called to initiate God's covenant
- Jacob- place of self-examination
- Moses- time of re-commitment
- Elijah- ministered to and strengthened
- David- preparation
If you want to grow as a Christian, you must go to the place where it's just you and God.
