Mark 1:2-8
Instructions from the life of John the Baptist
1. Recognize that you have a higher calling. (2-4)
We have an obligation to the world to share with them the message God has shared with us.
Two-fold message
a. challenged people to repent
b. promised them God's forgiveness
Repentance is not a punishment, it is a privilege.
2. Hold yourself to a higher standard. (5-6)
a. Be willing to sacrifice comfort.
b. Put a lid on materialism.
c. Starve your appetites.
3. Submit to a higher authority. (7-8)
Nothing is more dangerous than for a man to think he is too powerful to face consequences.
Romans 12:3 “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.”
Matthew 20:26 “Whoever want to become great among you must become your servant.”
