​Rather than just having to roll with the tide, we can choose to be a change-maker in our corner of the world.
Josiah ruled the land more effectively and godly than anyone before him.


How to be a positive change-maker.
1. Accept your responsibilities to do the right thing.
Everybody has their own obstacles in accepting the responsibility to doing the right thing in life.


2. Behave accordingly.
Negative implications- there are things which should cease to occur in your life.
Josiah put a stop to evil and wicked actions.
Positive implications- Josiah repaired and restored the temple.
We need to give God the central and preeminent place He deserves.
The negative side is denial. The positive side is dedication.


3. Claim your great resources.
As long as the Word of God was hidden, the nation went from bad to worse.
The one source of authority which can never be shaken is the Word of God.


Changes you can make today
1. the change eternally-being born again
​2. the change externally- to be a member of this church
3. the change internally- to make a fresh commitment

Christ's hope for the Church
1. He wants us to have unity. (20)
Christ has made us one.
Unity has more to do with the attitudes of individuals within the Church.


2. He wants us to have His likeness. (21)
We can still learn of Him by discovering His revelation of Himself to us.


3. He wants us to have His testimony. (21)
You who believe today are here because somebody, sometime, brought you to church or told you about Jesus.


4. He wants us to have His glory. (22-24)
Every time we pray, we sense a part of His glory.
Every time we really worship, every time we follow His example, every time we witness, there is glory.


5. Jesus wants us to know that we are loved. (26)
Jesus prays that you will cling to that, and that you will let that knowledge make a difference in your life.

Hebrews 7:24 - “He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.”


1. Jesus prays that His followers be kept in grace.
a. they are identified as belonging in Christ. (6-8)
b. they be separated from the world. (9)
c. they be protected from evil. (11)


2. Jesus prays that they would remain in joy. (13-15)
He prayed this, knowing the persecution His followers would face.


3. Jesus prays they would be consecrated for service. (17)
Jesus prepared His followers to receive salvation from their sins, but also to take the gospel to the world.
There is a connection between revelation and consecration.


Application to us
Havner- “We are not to be isolated, but insulated.”
God may allow us to face very difficult things, but He is right beside us all the way.

The test of joy is how you react when things are tough.
Jesus went to the cross so that you would be free to serve God.  

Jesus wanted this prayer to be heard.
Jesus began this prayer by praying for Himself.


Theological doctrines of the faith
1. Foreknowledge (vs. 1)
Predestination does not mean that there is a pre-established time for every event in your life.


2. Divine authority and divine initiative (vs. 2)
God chooses to use His authority to save us.


3. Definition of salvation (vs. 3)

We must know God.
We must know Jesus Christ.
(John 14:6; Acts 4:12


4. Purpose of the Incarnation (vs. 4)

The purpose of Jesus' coming to earth was to give glory to God.
Satan's objective has always been to deprive God of His glory.


5. the Exaltation of Jesus (vs. 5)

pre-existence of Christ-glory He had before the world began
Philippians 2- Jesus emptied Himself of that glory.
His only request is that He be returned to that position of glory.

The beginning of temptation is not so much giving in to evil desires, but it is more in doubting the Word of God and the character of God.

1. He comes to us in disguise. (vs. 1)
a. He is disguised in his Person.
He comes as an angel of light.

b. He is disguised in his Purpose.
You can misuse the doctrine of grace.
You can misuse the doctrine of sovereignty.

c. He disguises the Point of the temptation.
Satan shifts the focus to the one thing you want so desperately, you'll do anything to get it.


2. He attacks God's Word. (vs. 4)
God knows the devastation that sin can have in your life.


3. He attacks God's character. (vs. 5)
You doubt God's Word because you really doubt God's goodness.

Christianity is not mere morality. It is a relationship with the God who loves you.
Sin is dangerous because it hurts our understanding of God.
