Envy= to want something that belongs to another person
Jealousy= to fear that something we possess will be taken from us.
Envy and jealousy cause you to have a victim's mentality.
When people become envious, they lose the ability to enjoy life.

Four words to remember to eliminate envy
1. Trust (vs. 3)
God doesn't make mistakes or play tricks on us.
2. Delight (vs. 4)
When you put God first, your heart's desires become more like His.

3. Commit (vs. 5)
“Who gets the credit?” shouldn't be our main concern.
Our main concern should be, “What is the end result.”

4. Wait (vs. 7)
Waiting is not a passive activity.

1. Jesus removes your sins.(29)
I John 2:2- He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Jesus doesn't just overlook your sins, He has eliminated them.


2. Jesus gives you power to live. (32)
When you are saved, you are plunged into spiritual life.
We need more than forgiveness, we need the power to live right.


3. Jesus is with you always. (35-39)
The gospels offer an around-the-clock portrait of Christ.
You don't just visit Him on Sundays, you live in His presence 24 hours a day.


4. Jesus calls you by a new name. (42)
God knows what you can be, and He has the power to help you become it. (II Cor. 5:17)

Lessons from the Philippian jailer
1. Through your troubles, you encounter people that otherwise you would not have met.

2. Others really listened to the words that Paul and Silas sang and prayed.
3. Suicide is never the answer to anything.
4. The most important question: “what must I do to be saved?”
5. Getting saved is not a complicated thing.
6. Baptism is only for those who have believed what Jesus has done for us.
7. There is often a chain reaction when someone gets saved.
8. The doors God opened were for the salvation of souls.
9. This story is an example of what God can do to free the captive and save the lost.

Theological components of this historical account
1. The Depravity of Mankind
All that God made was good. (Gen. 1:9, 11, 18, 25)
After He created mankind, it was very good. (31)
Every part of who we are as humans has been affected by sin. (Gen. 6:5, 11; Ps. 14:2-3, Rom. 3:9-23, Jer. 17:9)

2. The Decree from God
The destruction of man is the righteous judgment of a holy God. (Gen. 6:7-14)
God doesn't owe anybody anything.
By building the ark, Noah condemned the world. (Hebrews 11:7)

3. The Declaration of Grace
The most striking thing about this account is the message of God's grace.
It was his relationship with God that caused Noah to live a life that was so much more righteous than everybody else. (Gen. 6:8)
It was Noah's faith that saved him, not his righteousness. (Heb. 11:7)
Synopsis of the gospel of Jesus Christ
1. We are part of depraved humanity. (Is. 53:6)

1. Contentment is a learned thing.
Learning involves discipline, patience, development, trial and error.

God never guarantees happiness.
Contentment is the internal state of mind of being detached from the anxiety and worry over
the externals of life.
It means accepting the way things are.


3. Paul learned to be content in whatever circumstances.

4. The secret to being content is …........Jesus!
Anything that would cause you to be discontent has to do with your present circumstances, or issues
remaining from your past, or worry about the future.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.


5. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
“Whatever my lot,” (whatever the circumstances)
“Thou hast taught me to say” (I have learned)
