1. The irony of resurrection
The religious leaders viewed Lazarus as just as much a threat to their religious system as they viewed Jesus.
Irony-another resurrection would not receive nearly as much attention as that of Lazarus.
Resurrection demands a response.
2. The irony of praise
palm branch= symbol of the righteous
The crowd was proclaiming Jesus as king.
Jesus not only allowed this praise, but initiated it.
Too many want to wear the crown of His kingdom, but do not want to bear the cross of His servanthood.
3. The irony of being lifted up
It was time to be honored as king because that meant that it was time for Him to die.
irony-being “lifted up” means being worthy of praise, but Jesus was referring to being lifted up on the cross to die.
