"PILGRIM'S PROGRESS"

Hebrews 11:13-16

“pilgrim” means wanderer

1. God's people have always been a pilgrim people.
We are strangers in a foreign land, looking for a better country.
Some Christians just blend in to the culture of the world.

2. If we wish to reach the ultimate goal, we must keep on in the journey. (Heb. 11:1; 13, 4:1-2; 10:39)
Faith is not just believing in God, but believing God.
Faith and faithfulness are never separated in biblical thought.

3. All of the resources that are necessary for the journey are made available to us.

a. priesthood
b. sacrifices
c. leadership
d. miracles
(Hebrews 2:3-4)

Everything God did for the Jews in the wilderness, He has done for us in Christ.

"THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD"

Deuteronomy 7:7-9

1. God is faithful in His character. (7-8)
God is a rock. (Deut. 32:4)
“Character is who we are in the dark.”

2. God is faithful to keep His promises. (9)
I Kings 8:56; Joshua 21:45; II Peter 3:9; Hebrews 10:23;
Romans. 4:21, Titus 1:2; II Corinthians 1:20

Walk through Bible history
God promised God kept that promise

3. God is faithful to His purpose.

Jeremiah- a new covenant not written on tablets of stone, but written on the hearts of men.

His faithfulness provides us with a great deal of confidence.

How can you overcome your doubts, fears and worries in this life?
by believing in the faithfulness of God

"A CRYING SHAME"

Lamentations 1:6-8

Observations about the spiritual life.
1. It is not just a personal matter, but it is a national matter.
The spiritual climate of a nation can greatly affect its political and military power, its self-sufficiency, and its influence on the world.

2. It is not just a singular experience, but it is a continuous one.

3. It is not just a blessing, but it is a trial. (Hebrews 12:7-11)

Common elements of each dirge
1. a demand that God be recognized (1:18; 2:1; 3:22-24; 4:11-12; 5:1)

2. a demand that sin be acknowledged (1:8; 2:14; 3:42-45; 4:13; 5:16-18)

3. a plea for mercy to be experienced (1:21; 2:19; 3:55-56; 4:22; 5:21)

The same steps are necessary for each of us to be saved.
These concepts apply not only to our salvation experience, but to our whole Christian lives.
We must continue to recognize God.
We must continue to acknowledge our sinfulness.
We must continue to experience God's mercy.

"SOMETHING MORE"

Galatians 2:17-21

Being a Christian is about experiencing a life-changing connection with God.

Legalism= trying to earn by your own efforts what God only gives for free.
The content of Paul's message was that a person is saved through faith in Jesus Christ, not through keeping the Jewish religious laws.

The issue is the condition of your heart.

To be “crucified with Christ”
1. I live through Christ. (20a)
When we change the way we think, we change the way we live. (Romans 12:2)

2. I Live by faith. (20b)
Your “moving forward” is a step of faith.
Many times, we don't want to move forward on the strength of our faith, but on the strength of a feeling.

3. I live in grace. (21)
Many Christians want their relationship with God to be based on payment for services rendered, not undeserved mercy.
