Psalms 62:1-5
Meditation is simply a deeper form of prayer.
Elements of meditation
1. Attachment (1-2)
Other religions teach that we should get to the place where we want nothing.
The Bible teaches that we should get to the place where we want nothing but God.
We begin by detaching ourselves from the world.
We continue by attaching ourselves to God.
2. Expectation (3-4)
Meditation moves us beyond simply asking and receiving.
Waiting on God means we have submitted ourselves to His timetable.
3. Silence (5)
To hear from the Lord, we need to get rid of all the other noises out there.
Inner noises: fleeting thoughts, old prejudices, self-pity, bitter resentment.
Meditation is a marathon, not a hundred-yard dash.
