I Corinthians 4:9-13

conscience- an inborn sense of “oughtness”
Romans 2:15- the law of God is written on our heart.

1. teaching you received from your parents
2. customs of the community
3. thinking, habits, actions of your peer group
4. content of your chosen environment

Therefore, your conscience is not infallible.
could be weak or defiled (8:7)
​could be seared as with a hot iron (I Tim. 4:2)
could be corrupted (Titus 1:15)


Main thrust
To try to convince others to go against their own conscience is wrong. (Romans 14:14
Going against your conscience opens the door to direct rebellion against God.
The way to get rid of false guilt is to develop a Christian conscience.


A Christian conscience is formed by Christian parents.
A Christian conscience is formed by Christian customs.
A Christian conscience is formed by Christian peer groups.
A Christian conscience is formed by a Christian environment.


A Christian conscience will prevent you from being legalistic and will make you more sensitive to the
needs of others.
