I Peter 1:13-21
(Isaiah 40:25, 6:5; Habakkuk 1:13; Revelation 15:4. I Samuel 2:2)
The only way we could ever be acceptable to God is if we are made holy. (Exodus 31:13; Leviticus 21:8;
I Corinthians 1:2; Hebrews 10:10, 2:11)
Three stages
1. Positional Sanctification- after the sacrifices were made, God saw the people as being holy.
Jesus' sacrifice was once for all.
2. Progressive Sanctification – God still calls us to live our lives as holy people. (Leviticus 11:44-45, 19:2, 20:7, 26; I Thessalonians 4:7; II Timothy 1:9; I Peter 1:15; II Peter 3:11)
Sanctification is a life-long project.
3. Complete Sanctification – When Christ comes again, we will be released from the limitations of earth and this body. (Philippians 3:20; I John 2:2)
Sanctification always finds its root in Jesus.
a. to have positional sanctification, you must trust in Christ.
b. to have progressive sanctification, you must emulate Christ.
c. to have complete sanctification, you must hope in Christ.
