Isaiah 53-”He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him.”
Contrasts between the biblical and cultural church
1. Spontaneity vs. Structure
cultural- worship becomes more of a performance
-congregation is a group of spectators
biblical- God is the spectator
-congregation are the performers
2. Edification vs. Education
The most important thing in a church is not how much we know, it is how much we love each other and build up each other.
3. Salvation vs. Socialization
cultural- made up of those raised in the church
biblical- spotted by its conversions and changed lives
4. Conviction vs. Concept
cultural- proud of its broad-mindedness and social consciousness.
biblical- believes something because the Bible says so
Old First Church Syndrome- heritage and status become barriers to growth.
Every church has a choice.
