Hebrews 11:1-6
In Hebrew, the word for 'faith' is only a verb.
Faith chapter: Two groups
1. The first group received great deliverance and victory.
2. The second group died with nothing on earth that validated their faith.
Either way, a life of faith requires a confidence in a God you cannot see and in promises you cannot always feel.
Abraham: (17-18) Will you obey God, even when it doesn't seem to make sense?
Jacob and Joseph: (21-22) Will you have unwavering hope in the midst of darkness?
Moses: (24-25) Will you leverage your earthly position because you believe in eternity?
Israelites: (29) Will you trust that God will provide for you in impossible situations?
Where can we get that confidence? In the death and resurrection of Jesus. (39-40)
What we see gives us the confidence to have faith, even if we don't have that earthly validation that we would like to have.
