“hesed” -lovingkindness
almost always used when talking about God's treatment of us (Eph. 2:7; Titus 3:4)
1st century confusion- was new religion based on a person called “Christos,” or on “chrestos” and centered on being kind?
Kindness is one of those things you must clothe yourselves with. (Col. 3:12)
It is the doing of the kindness that makes us then feel kind and loving.
Kindness, as a fruit of the Holy Spirit, is always others-centered.
Categories of Jesus' kindness
1. Sympathy- a simple gesture that outwardly demonstrates that you care
2. Benevolence-things we can do to help make someone's life a little easier
3. Generosity- choose to give more than is expected or asked for
Kindness brings change. (Romans 2:4)
