John 11:29-35
Therefore, He has been rejected by those who want Him to be something else.
The tears of Jesus
1. tears of compassion for the pain of His friends. (John 11:35)
To Martha, Jesus responded with solid and profound theology. (23-25)
Mary need to know that Jesus cared. (36-37)
2. tears of sorrow for the city for their lack of faith. Luke 19:41-43)
a. Jesus despairing over his knowledge that Jerusalem would be destroyed.
b. those crying for peace and shouting praises would go to their deaths without the forgiveness and salvation He came to give them.
The time of Christ's coming to us is again at hand.
3. tears of anguish for His own suffering. (Matthew 26:37-8, Luke 22:44, Hebrews 5:7)
a. Obedience includes tears
b. It's OK to grieve over the suffering.
(Revelation 21:4, Psalm 126:5, Hebrews 4:14, Philippians 3:9)
Jesus' tears were not a sign of weakness.
