Genesis 8:15-22
1. The Depravity of Mankind
All that God made was good. (Gen. 1:9, 11, 18, 25)
After He created mankind, it was very good. (31)
Every part of who we are as humans has been affected by sin. (Gen. 6:5, 11; Ps. 14:2-3, Rom. 3:9-23, Jer. 17:9)
2. The Decree from God
The destruction of man is the righteous judgment of a holy God. (Gen. 6:7-14)
God doesn't owe anybody anything.
By building the ark, Noah condemned the world. (Hebrews 11:7)
3. The Declaration of Grace
The most striking thing about this account is the message of God's grace.
It was his relationship with God that caused Noah to live a life that was so much more righteous than everybody else. (Gen. 6:8)
It was Noah's faith that saved him, not his righteousness. (Heb. 11:7)
Synopsis of the gospel of Jesus Christ
1. We are part of depraved humanity. (Is. 53:6)
2. We are subject to the decree of God. (Matt. 24:36)
3. We are recipients of God's declaration of grace. (Matt. 7:23-24; John 10:9; Eph. 2:8-9)
Walking with God will separate us from the rest of the world.
We need a righteousness beyond our own, the kind that we inherit, through faith in the One, true righteous One. (John 14:6)
