The New Birth
1. WHAT?
What it is not- a. a second biological birth
b. baptized with water
c. an external reformation
What it is – a. implanting of a new heart (Col. 3:9)
b. a new creation (II Cor. 5:17)
c. a resurrection (Eph. 2:1, 4-6; Rom. 6:6-8)
d. a translation (Col. 1:13)
e. a transformation (Rom. 12:2)
2. WHY?
a. necessary to have fellowship with God (I John 1:5-6, II Cor. 6:14)
b. necessary to be a part of the family of God ((Rom. 8:14-17)
c. necessary for us to know holiness (I Peter 1:3-4)
d. the only way our obedience can be acceptable (Prov. 21:27)
e. only way to have eternal life (John 3:3)
3. HOW?
a. It is a miracle (I Peter 3:18)
b. by the power of God's Word (I Peter 1:23)
4. WHEN?
a. there is faith ( I John 1:5a)
b. victory over the world ((I John 5:4-5)
c. a difference in how you live (I John 5:18; 3:8-10)
d. a love for God and people (I John 4:7-8, 5:1b)
5. WHO?
