Matthew 5:38-42
a. first mile: Do not murder. (21)
second mile: Anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. (22)
b. first mile: Do not commit adultery. (27)
second mile: Whoever looks lustfully has already committed adultery. (28)
vs. 29-30- We have no chance of being saved if we are basing our salvation on how good we are.
Good people don't go to heaven. Only perfect people go to heaven.
2. Jesus is the model of the second mile.
a. first mile: God condescended to us and became man to walk among us.
second mile: Jesus walked that painful road to Calvary.
b. first mile: Jesus comes into our hearts and dwells there by His Spirit.
second mile: Jesus takes us beyond this life and brings us into His glory.
3. Not only are we forgiven for our sins, but we are made overcomers of them.
How? Not by our own sinful nature, but by the power of our faith in Christ.
Usually, giving our lives to Christ isn't glorious.
It is done in those little acts of love.
