Isaiah 11:1-10
1. Jesus is that “shoot from the stump.” (1)
Every single prophecy about the Messiah is fulfilled in Jesus, or will be.
All that God has ever needed to accomplish His purposes was just a remnant.
2. The Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. (2)
The Holy Spirit is a part of every great thing God has ever done.
Three resources
a. an intellectual life- wisdom and understanding
b. practical ability- counsel and power
c. spiritual life- knowledge and fear of the Lord
These resources are made available to us, too.
3. The resources were suited to the task Jesus was given to do. (3-4)
The context of the ministry of the Messiah is directed toward concepts we usually view as negative.
4. Jesus has long-range goals that will be completed when He comes again. (6-10)
There will be a restoration of nature.
Our only hope is through that Branch, our Savior Jesus Christ.
