Isaiah 53:4-7
1. The Messiah would come as a servant of the Lord. (42:1-7)
2. This child would be born of a virgin. (7:14)
3. This child would one day become king of the world. (9:6)
4. This child would grow up, die a horrible death. (53:7)
Why would He go silently?
1. The Messiah trusted His executioner. (4, 6, 10)
Jesus allowed God's plan to be fulfilled in Him. (John 10:17; Hebrews 10:5)
2. The Messiah loved the real criminals.
a. He became our substitute. (5)
b. He became our scapegoat. (6)
c. He became our sin offering. (10)
d. He became our sin bearer. (11-12)
e. He became our intercessor. (12)
3. The Messiah had been given specific promises. (10)
a. He would not die in vain. (John 10:1, 28)
b. His death would not last forever. (John 10:17)
c. His death would please God. (Philippians 2:9-11)
Can this prophecy really be directly about Jesus? (Luke 22:37; Acts 8:32)
